Bulk billing for kids under the CDBS
The Medicare Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS) helps eligible families with the cost of basic dental care for children aged 2 to 17. It covers up to $1,158 per child over two consecutive calendar years (2026 cap). At our practice, we bulk bill eligible children for covered services, so there’s nothing to pay for:
- Check-ups
- Cleans
- X-rays
- Fillings
- Extractions
Eligibility usually depends on your family receiving certain Australian Government payments, such as Family Tax Benefit Part A. If you’re not sure whether your child is eligible, call us and we’ll check for you before the appointment.
When should my child have their first dental visit?
The Australian Dental Association recommends a first visit when your child’s first tooth comes through, or by about 12 months of age. Starting early means visits are short, relaxed and about getting familiar with the chair, the light and the team, well before any treatment might be needed.
What happens at a child’s check-up?
- We check the teeth, gums and bite, and how new teeth are coming through.
- We look for early signs of decay and, where needed, take X-rays.
- We clean the teeth and may apply fluoride to help protect them.
- We show you and your child how to brush and floss at home, and talk about diet and drinks.
Parents are welcome to stay with their child for the whole appointment. Most children see us every six to twelve months; we’ll suggest a schedule that suits your child.
Easy for families
- Appointments until 7pm on Tuesdays and 6pm on Wednesdays, outside school hours.
- Free parking at Delacombe Town Centre, with a wheelchair-accessible entrance.
- Baby change table and a nursing room on site.
- Health fund claims on the spot through HICAPS for families with extras cover.
Children’s dental emergencies
If your child has toothache, a chipped tooth or a knocked tooth, call us as early in the day as possible and we’ll do our best to see them the same day. If an adult (permanent) tooth is knocked out, hold it by the crown, keep it moist in milk and call immediately. Don’t try to put a baby tooth back in. For severe swelling, trouble breathing or a serious injury, go to the nearest emergency department or call 000.
